Diabetes Self-Management

The Diabetes Self-Management Program is for newly diagnosed and existing diabetics. This education is provided in the belief that knowledge and self-management skills enable the individual to gain better control over diabetes and reduce the risk of complications.

Pender Memorial Hospital’s diabetes self-management education program was recently awarded the prestigious American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for a quality diabetes self-management education program. The recognition by the ADA demonstrates that this program offers high-quality education that is an essential component of effective diabetes treatment. The Association’s Education Recognition Certificate assures that educational programs meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs.

These individualized classes recommended by the American Diabetes Association include:

 Meal Planning/Nutrition Medication
